  As was her norm, she started speaking almost immediately, before ‘The Thief’ could even think about saying something. For almost half an hour she talked about what was in her report and how it was stolen from her. Amanda could see that with every word she spoke, ‘The Thief’ was getting more agitated. Finally he did speak, barely reining in his anger.

  “And, Ms Watson, would you mind telling us how your little sad story relates to me or what I may say?”

  “Let me see that file in front of you,” she started confidently, “and I will prove the work to be mine.”

  Colour drained from The Theif’s face.

  Amanda’s confidence increased. Before he could do anything, she bent and snatched the file from under his nose. It was an ordinary brown coloured file. She opened it. And there it was. Her file. The flash of blue she had seen was her file. The stupid man had not even made the effort to remove the papers from the original file to replace them. He brought in the actual file. Even if he would have left the file back wherever he came from, she could have proven herself. The report was printed on papers that were all watermarked with the agency’s name.

  This mistake would probably cost him his new job but he chose the wrong path. He definitely would not find his desired destination on it.
